Pregnancy at 6 weeks is early and what you have in you is as small as the tip of your finger. This is the correct time to terminate a pregnancy. At this stage what is inside you is just developing and does not have human features, it is not sensitive to anything and it does not feel any pain. It is not a living humanbeing at all and it is not even a featus. It is actually called a blastocyst. The zygote - the cells have just attached themselves to the uterus.

How are you feeling during this time of Pregnancy?

During the 6th week of your pregnancy you are going to feel a lot changes in your body. The breasts are going to feel sore. You are going to feel like vomiting otherwise known as nausea. You will feel tired most of the time. This called fatigue. And you will go to the toilet frequently to pass urine. These are all effects of the pregnancy growing in your belly. The belly is slightly swelling at the bottom.

Bestime to terminate:

This is the best time to terminate because when you terminate you will completely see nothing as blastocyst as discussed above will be passed with with the heavy menstrual cycle that will flow from your uterus. These cells will will not feel any pain because they do not have human feelings as yet.

How do you terminate at 6 weeks?

You can either terminate with medicine - otherwise known as medical abortion or surgical abortion. Medical abortion is the cheapest way to terminate as you are given medicine (pills) and you often take them in the privacy of your home. They will trigger a miscarriage and you will pass the pregnancy tissue with the menstrual cycle and you are done. It extremely safe.

Surgical abortion:

At this stage surgical abortion can be done as well. Surgical abortion is expensive for most women. It involves direct intervention of the doctor whereas medical abortion is done with taking of pills which you do yourself. But both are very safe. You will be given local anesthesia. Local anesthesia is to ensure that you numbed and you do not feel pain.

During the procedure, the doctor will:

1. Use a speculum to view inside your vagina
2. Clean your vagina and cervix with gauze soaked in soap
3. Apply numbing medication to your cervix
4. Dilate your cervix, the tight opening to your uterus, with thin metal rods
5. Insert a narrow flexible tube into your uterus
6. Apply gentle suction to the other end of the tube to remove all of the pregnancy tissue

Toward the end of the procedure, you may feel a cramp that feels similar to a menstrual cramp in your uterus, as it is shrinking down to its usual size.

Most of the procedure time is spent preparing your body for the procedure. The suction portion only takes about a minute and the entire procedure takes around 15 to 20 minutes.

It is quick but expensive because the doctor directly intervenes. It is usually in the region of R2800 to R3500 if done in a private clinic. It depends where you do it.
